LEWISTON, Maine -- A Lewiston woman who said she was "horrified" by the content of an acclaimed sex education book has checked out copies from two libraries and refuses to give them back.
JoAn Karkos made her feelings known in letters to the Lewiston and Auburn public libraries. Each letter was accompanied by a check for $20.95 to cover the cost of the book, "It's Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex and Sexual Health."
In one letter, Karkos wrote, “I have been sufficiently horrified of the illustrations and sexually graphic, amoral, abnormal contents. I will not be returning the books.”

How did Ms. Karkos "happen" upon this book she considers "inappropriate?" Obviously she was searching for something on that very subject. Will she picket adult book stores, strip clubs and any other venue she feels is inappropriate?
What does she plan to do with the book now that it is in her possession?
Will this become a new reality show where we see Ms. Karkos each week traveling from town to town in search of "inappropriate" books?
Woe be unto Ms. Karkos if she takes a peek at what some public library patrons sneak to view on public computers. I dare say she may faint dead away with a case of the vapors.

Bingo! mpgs324. Of course people like this scour the shelves looking for controversy. Hope she doesn't happen to stumble across our graphic novels. They're called "graphic" for a reason.
I'd rather sit at my desk and read a book about the birds and the bees than see thonged butts on our public PC screens.
