Qipit turns a camera phone or digital camera into a scanner, copier, and fax. Similar to it's competitor scanR, Qipit enables users to take a picture of any written material and transform it into a scan-quality digital documents that are easy to save and share on the go.
To use the service, you need only take a photo of the document such as class notes, a magazine article or business document send it to Qipit directly from a camera phone, via e-mail or from a Qipit account. The photo is then turned into a PDF file that you can store, fax, or send via e-mail. The potential uses of Qipit are almost limitless, but here are a few examples:
- Taking notes: Instead of scribbling what's on a white board or recreating a diagram, take a picture, send it to Qipit, and get a high contrast, easy to read digital copy. All the class notes with no notebook or sharp #2 pencil needed. It’s all the rage on college campuses.
- Document signing: If no scanner is available, a copy of an urgent document can be captured on a camera phone, converted, send to a fax number, signed and returned.
- Impromptu information sharing: If you come across an interesting article while reading a magazine at a the doctor’s office, capture it with your camera phone, and share the converted document with a friend.
- Back-ups: Photo birth certificates, passports. legal and financial documents and store them online as a separate source of file recovery in the event of a hardware failure.
