Try Google Docs

Google Docs is a terrific way to give you & your patrons more options!

Google Docs uses the web as a platform to create office documents that are hosted online. You can use it for documents, spreadsheets and presentations, using a familiar "Microsoft Office" like interface.

With Google Docs, you can upload your existing Microsoft Office files, create new files from scratch, and save your documents for access from any Internet computer . No floppy or flash drive required! This is a lifesaver when a patron comes in without a way to save an important file.

Every file is tied to your personal log in. Only you have access, unless you choose to share it. You can instantly share it with whomever you wish just by clicking on the Share tab and entering their email address.

If needed, you can download a file created in Google Docs to your computer as a Word, Excel, Open Office, Rich Text, PDF, or HTML document.

To access Google Docs: Go to: docs.google.com

Take a tour of Google Docs here.

Also, check out the Google Docs video from a previous blog post.

BTW : Google Docs can also be used to create and publish blog posts. Just as this post was.

Great example of "cloud computing"!

You can log on and use MS Word from anywhere now and share work with others. What a wonderful resource!
